SHARPSBURG, GA — Reets Drying Academy recently launched an all new crawlspace encapsulation course with which restoration companies can diversify their service offerings, according to a release.Reets-logo-300x250

“Crawlspace encapsulation is the next major diversification for the restoration industry,” the company said in the release. “Remember when hardly anyone was offering mold mitigation services back in the early 2000s? Today it’s just another service virtually all restoration contractors offer.”

While many companies provide crawlspace encapsulation services, few have trained experts that understand the building science required to ensure a fix to the problems their customers experience.

Through collaborative of the nation’s top building science experts, the leading crawlspace research organization, restorative drying experts and the leading manufacturer of moisture remediation and control equipment have developed the first Crawl Space Encapsulation Specialist Training Program to address the lack of training on the issue.

This course is taught through a combination of classroom lecture — learning the science, process and business of encapsulation — and hands-on training directly in the crawl space. An exam follows, allowing completion of training and certificate on the same day.

Crawlspaces are full of problems with mold, odors, pests, energy consumption and damage to the structure and contents of the home.

“Until recently, the crawlspaces in over 26 million homes throughout the country were thought to be ‘out of sight, out of mind,’” the company added. “With millions of homes in need of this service and a low cost of entry for contractors, now is the time for you to diversify… Consumers are looking for a way to solve these issues, and crawlspace encapsulation is the answer.”

This program gives attendees an in-depth understanding of moisture, energy conservation and engineering controls. This class will also show you how to install an encapsulation system that stops mold growth, eliminates bacterial odor, reduces pest infestation and slows energy consumption.

Topics covered in the program include:

  • Psychrometry and moisture science,
  • Mold prevention,
  • Engineered moisture control,
  • Effects of moisture content on building materials,
  • Building and energy codes governing encapsulation installations,
  • Encapsulation principles,
  • Categorization of crawlspaces based on energy, moisture and health management,
  • Dehumidifier sizing, installation and control,
  • Standardized, step-by-step processes for moisture blocking and removal.

This class will be led by Jeremy Reets at his Reets Drying Academy, a leading restorative drying, hands-on education facility, in Sharpsburg. Reets is an educator, restorative drying expert and former IICRC Water Restoration Technical Advisory Chairman.
