NY green regs clash with industry standard

ALBANY, NY — The proposed guidelines and specifications for the procurement and use of environmentally sensitive cleaning products — recently posted by the New York State Office of General Services (OGS) for public comment — directly conflict with recommendations from several industry associations and manufacturers, according to a press release issued by U.S. Products. The Green Cleaning Guidelines and Specifications for all New York schools recommend the use of cold water in cleaning — including carpet cleaning — because "hot water melts and spreads soils that are dissolvable by water, and those soils are likely to cling to the colder surface being cleaned," according to the release. U.S. Products stated in the release that recommendations by following organization are contrary to this proposed regulation:
The public comment period on the proposed guidelines ends on May 3, according to the release. Comments may be sent:
