NE. OHIO Chapter News

The NE Ohio SCRTChapter held a meeting November 22nd in Medina, OH.  The meeting was well attended with more than 18 members and one guest company. Our presenter was Mark Violand, of ViolandFlooring Inspections. Mark led the group through updated carpet manufacture Commercial Carpet Cleaning and Maintenance Specifications and Warranties.

It was interesting to find out that if you are using a bonnet type cleaning method or a triple head, rotary pad machine that you may be voiding the carpets warranty. There are many of us using these methods and equipment in our companies daily and have been doing so for years, with great results. What Mark was trying to do was to help define proper vs. improper procedures, methods, and equipment, and to help us understand what theses warranties may mean and the effect it could have on the cleaning company maintaining commercial carpet this way.

There was simply not enough time to discuss and cover all the aspects of this issue. We just scratched the surface. There are simply too many “what if” scenarios. We will continue this cleaning
conundrum by holding a “Part Two” on February 18th at D&R Carpet Service in Brooklyn Heights, OH., from 8:30am to noon.  We will make available to those who attend a 1/2 IICRC Continuing Education Credit. We will also take a more in-depth look into Commercial Carpet Maintenance issues, and have hands-on, real-time demonstrations to see if we can replicate the damage caused by some of these banned methods, and equipment. So come join the discussion, share and network with some of the most informed cleaners in the industry. Cost will be $40.00 for SCRT Members and $60.00 for non-members.  Price includes lunch and refreshments. Space is limited and SCRT members get first dibs. This has been a hot topic across the industry and this will be the first of its kind, so make sure you get your RSVP in today.
