Happy New Year from the New York Rug Cleaners Institute (NYRCI).

Many of our members, customers and families were affected by Hurricane Sandy, and our wish to all of you is a better new year.

We have a great calendar of meetings and trainings events for 2013. We have the pleasure of having IICRC instructor Doug Heiferman for three training classes this year.

We offer these classes at major savings to our members. The classes include the Fast Track Oriental Rug Cleaning, Power Up 2-Day Hands-On Technical Training and the IICRC two-day Upholstery and Fabric Cleaning Technician course. We also have our four dinner meeting topics, which are Relationships between Cleaners and Retailers, Leather Cleaning with Steve Poulos, Roundtable Discussions and What Makes a Company Great with Dennis Klager.

All guests are welcome to join us at one dinner meeting for free to see what we have to offer.

The Fast Track Oriental Rug Cleaning course is our first event, scheduled for February 28. Join us for an in-plant, hands-on experience.

For info and dates on all classes and meetings, please contact us at [email protected] or by telephone, either Barry Golomb at (914) 632-4414 or Bill Long at (631) 698-9751.

Jessica Ferrante, owner of Routley Enterprises in Costa Mesa, provided a great atmosphere for the Carpet & FabriCare Institute (CFI) Orange Co/Inland Empire Chapter meeting.

The group discussed the topic of upselling. Routley Enterprises was well stocked with everything imaginable for your business, including specials and discounts given to all CFI members. It was a great atmosphere.

The guest speaker of the evening was Jessika James from Prochem. Jessica came with a bag loaded with ideas to improve sales. Everyone got into the meeting and the ideas starting coming out. We learned of the potential income being left at the door. Most ideas included tools and chemicals that we already have.

The CFI will be hosting a Spot Dye and Area Rug Repair Class on February 11 in Sacramento, with Melody David from The Dyers Guild. For more information, e-mail [email protected] or call (800) Carpet9 (227-7389).

The Professional Association of Cleaning and Restoration (PACR) is excited for 2013 and the new opportunities available for PACR and ICRA members.

PACR held its annual holiday party on December 14, in Arvada, CO, where there were more than 50 PACR members who came together to celebrate the season.

The night included fun games, networking, a great band and prizes. PACR members also elected the 2013 board of directors. We would like to welcome back to the PACR board of directors: Sam Castro of Mile High Commercial Cleaning and Restoration and Travis Chancey of Denver Construction.

And, a big congratulations to David Keiter of Yellow Van Cleaning Services in Kearney, NE. He is the 2012 recipient of the PACR Larry S. Cooper Leadership Award. Thank you, David, for all your time and commitment to PACR and to the cleaning and restoration industry.

The new PACR board of directors is excited for new ICRA education that will be kicking off this spring… look for it to come to Denver and other surrounding areas, bringing advanced exclusive education to ICRA members only.

And have you checked out the great consumer website just released by the ICRA? Go to www.AboutRestoration.com. This is a great resource for you, consumers and insurance agents to find out more information on restoration and to find a professional ICRA member in their area.

PACR is very excited for the new hands-on opportunities at the Experience Events Convention in Clearwater Beach, FL, on April 18-20. PACR/ICRA members will receive $100 off their registration fees.

To register or find out more information go to www.ExperienceTheEvents.com. Also look forward to the largest tradeshow and convention in the cleaning and restoration industry coming to Las Vegas this fall, September 4-6, with the Experience Events.

Other great opportunities will be coming to the Denver, Salt Lake City and Omaha areas this year and if you are in the Denver, Salt Lake City or Omaha area and are looking for a class to come to you, please contact the PACR office. Look for more details on these and other upcoming events at www.ProfessionalAssociationOfCleaningAndRestoration.org, www.ICRAssociation.org  or by contacting Jillian Olson in the PACR office at [email protected].
