The Clean Trust/IICRC continues with ITA plans

VANCOUVER, WA — The Clean Trust (formally the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification – IICRC) continues to move forward with plans to create an independent international trade association, according to a press release.

The plan was initially approved at The Clean Trust executive committee and board of directors meetings in 2010, the release stated.

According to the release, The Clean Trust is in the process of finalizing the structure of the organization, which aims to provide education, programs, services and products to individuals, companies and supporting organizations involved in the inspection, cleaning and restoration industry.

The association is expected to launch sometime in 2012, the release noted.

"The Clean Trust is deeply committed to providing the cleaning, restoration and inspection industry with the tools and resources necessary to grow their businesses and better serve their customers," said Darrell Paulson, The Clean Trust chairman of the board.

"This trade association will internationally unify the industry and support collaboration to pursue common goals and interests," Paulson added.

Settlement reached in Chinese drywall case

WASHINGTON — Thousands of homeowners affected by defective Chinese drywall have agreed to a settlement up to $1 billion, according to a press release.

The settlement is to be paid by German manufacturer Knauf International, whose Chinese subsidiary was responsible for the tainted product that has been blamed for producing fumes that damaged air conditioning, wiring and fixtures, the release stated.

According to the release, the settlement would allow about 4,500 properties containing drywall made by Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin to be repaired.

The settlement value is about $800 million to $1 billion, but the final cost will depend on the number of homeowners who provide evidence of tainted drywall and the size of the homes, the article noted.

Bridgepoint University releases 2012 class and seminar schedule

SALT LAKE CITY — Bridgepoint University, the educational division of Bridgepoint Systems, has released its 2012 education schedule, according to a press release.

So far, Bridgepoint University has scheduled over 300 events in 2012 throughout the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Australia, the release stated.

According to the release, Bridgepoint University teaches certification classes for The Clean Trust (the former Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)) in carpet cleaning, commercial carpet cleaning, upholstery and fabric cleaning, deodorization and odor control, water damage restoration, fire and smoke damage restoration, carpet repair and reinstallation and color repair.

Steve Poulos rejoins HydraMaster and U.S. Products

MUKILTEO, WA — Steve Poulos has rejoined both HydraMaster and U.S. Products in the newly created position of regional manager, according to a press release.

In this new position, Poulos will be responsible for key distributor accounts within the mountain region, along with several focused national and international accounts, the release stated.

According to the release, Steve returns to HydraMaster and U.S. Products from a key management position with a cleaning and restoration industry equipment, chemical and tool manufacturer.

Dayspring Restoration president named chairperson of RIA Contents Council

WOOD DALE, IL — Disaster Kleenup International LLC (DKI) has announced that Mark Springer has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Restoration Industry Association''s (RIA) Contents Council and was also added to its Board of Directors, according to a press release.

Springer is president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Dayspring Restoration, based out of Missoula, Montana, the release stated.

According to the release, the RIA has member firms worldwide and provides industry leadership, supports science and promotes best practices for cleaning and restoration.

ServiceMaster appoints president

MEMPHIS, TN — The ServiceMaster Company has announced that Thomas Coba has joined the company as president of ServiceMaster Clean and Merry Maids, according to a press release.

Coba is responsible for 6,375 franchises and international licenses in 33 countries, 82 branches and 31,000 team members operating under the ServiceMaster Clean, Merry Maids, AmeriSpec and Furniture Medic brands, the release stated.

According to the release, these brands hold category-leading positions in residential and commercial cleaning, disaster restoration, home inspections and furniture repair, respectively.

Coba joins ServiceMaster from Milford, Connecticut-based Subway Restaurants, where he served as chief operating officer, the release noted.

DKI named a fastest growing franchise

WOOD DALE, IL — Disaster Kleenup International Inc. (DKI) has announced that it has ranked number 83 on Entrepreneur magazine''s Fastest Growing Franchises for 2011, according to a press release.

These franchises are ranked based on their scores in Entrepreneur''s Franchise 500, the release stated.

According to the release, the Fastest Growing Franchises ranking is based on the number of new franchise units added in the U.S. and Canada from 2009 to 2010, as verified by Entrepreneur''s Franchise 500.

The 2011 rankings are based on financial and statistical data from July 2010 through July 2011 and thousands of companies'' submissions are reviewed before the final list is determined, the release noted.

AFTERDISASTER awarded federal emergency services contract through GSA

GREENSBORO, NC — The General Services Administration (GSA) has awarded a five year contract to AFTERDISASTER, according to a press release.

This contract engages AFTERDISASTER to provide all types of emergency services, including the provision of emergency electricity through generators, water damage mitigation, fire and smoke damage cleanup, mold remediation services and related product sales to all branches of the Federal Government, the release stated.

According to the release, AFTERDISASTER specializes in the provision of emergency and restoration services, as well as general contracting, for water, fire, smoke and mold damage victims in residential, commercial, institutional and governmental buildings.

"Being awarded this contract is the result of two years of deliberate, focused efforts by our Large Loss Division and administrative staff," said Chairman Joseph B. King, Jr.

"We look forward to serving the needs of the federal government and the General Services Administration," King added.
