LOWELL, MA — An outbreak of the canine parvovirus infection (parvo), a highly-contagious viral infection that can kill dogs, has been reported in Massachusetts, according to an article in .
This virus is spread by oral contact with infected feces and can live in the environment for months or even years, so it is an important reminder for dog owners of the need to keep carpet and other flooring clean.
Dog owners should keep their pets’ feet clean and perform regular carpet and hard floor cleanings to be sure their carpet is not harboring parvo-infected fecal particles tracked in by their dogs.
Dogs presenting parvovirus symptoms should be taken to a veterinarian immediately.
