By Michael McCagg AUSTIN, TX — Mold remediators and cleaning supplies will be in demand this week as property owners in Texas try to recover from massive floods. Already, some mold remediators have started work in southern and central Texas trying to help property owners avert massive mold contamination. "Some of my guys are already down there removing drywall," Bob Allen, owner of Texas-based Video-Aire Enviro Mold and president of International Association of Mold Remediation Specialists (IAMRS), told CM e-News Daily/CMM Online. With substantial area still under water, Allen said property owners are becoming well versed in the mold ramifications of flooding and are being more proactive this time around. Some areas received upwards of 3 feet of rain in the past week; its is being billed as a 100-year flood, though it''s the second such flood in the past four years for some of the areas affected. Other areas of the state sustained similar damage just a year ago, sending mold remediators and water damage restoration experts scurrying towork. The experience Texans have with mold may be beneficial in the long run, Allen said, as some residents know to be wary of mold and how to prevent it. That experience is also beneficial to the cleaning supply industry. News accounts report municipalities are making available cleaning supplies to their residents at local municipal centers.
