2010 Restoration Industry Benchmarking Survey Report
From Volume 25, Issue 7 - July 2010
Feature
Restoration pros need industry statistics to build their businesses. Cleanfax magazine has provided the data.
Sponsored by Phoenix Restoration Equipment

A common question among business owners is, "How much should I charge for my services?"

Others might wonder, "What should I expect to pay in costs to run my business?"

Those that crunch their own data often ask, "What profit margin is typical for the industry?"

These types of questions — and many more — are found in the 2010 Restoration Industry Benchmarking Survey Report, sponsored by Phoenix Restoration Equipment.

In the next few pages, take some time to analyze the data, provided by Cleanfax magazine, and compare your business to industry averages.

The numbers

Times may be looking up for restoration company owners. In this survey, you will find that 26 percent indicate they expect their business to "increase significantly," while another 36 percent expect their business to "increase some."

Owner compensation data also indicates better times. In the 2009 survey, 35 percent of respondents said that owner compensation was less than $50,000 per year, while in this year's survey, that number dropped to 26 percent.

Rules and regulations

With the new EPA Lead Renovation Repair and Painting (RRP) rule affecting the marketplace, Cleanfax magazine wanted to know how many restoration professionals were complying. Fifty-six percent of respondents indicated they now have RRP certification.

In addition, 90 percent of respondents indicated they have employee certification by an industry certification association. This is a 15 percent increase from last year's survey.

Accept and pay your quoted fee, allowing you to do your job correctly
Question your fee and attempt to reduce it, slowing down the restoration process
