Mitchell said this is the first program to define carpet maintenance product performance for users, and that only the best will pass the test.
The new program will utilize X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (click here for information on this technology) and measure small amounts of remaining soil to determine cleaning efficiency and ability of equipment – along with ensuring no texture or color damage occurs, Mitchell said.
Previous industry information has stated that installation was to blame for most carpet problems, but consumers (including commercial and residential) are reporting that carpet maintenance is the main problem, Mitchell said in his presentation.
